Blessing of the Seersucker

Blessing of the Seersucker!

On Sunday, June 10th, Saint Miriam will honor its First Annual Blessing of the Seersucker as a fun and beautiful way to kick off the official summer season! Seersucker is a thin, puckered, all-cotton fabric, commonly striped, used to make clothing for summer wear. The word came into English from Hindustani, which originates from the Persian words "shir o shekar", meaning "milk and sugar", probably from the resemblance of its smooth and rough stripes to the smooth texture of milk and the bumpy texture of sugar! Seersucker is woven in such a way that some threads bunch together, giving the fabric a wrinkled appearance in places. This feature causes the fabric to be mostly held away from the skin when worn, facilitating heat dissipation and air circulation. It also means that pressing is not necessary! How fun for a laid back summer! We will use our fabric, sewn by Midge Olson, to add a bit of whimsy to our Altar frontal, and our stiles worn by our ministry team! A light fare will follow in the garden, weather permitting or in the Fellowship Hall. Bring your family and friends for this fun event!

Mixed Bag Fundraiser

Mixed Bag Fundraiser is Back!

The Women of Saint Miriam began their annual Mixed Bag fundraiser in the Fellowship Hall! Orders will be taken until Sunday, June 10th. Please email Eileen Kernick at ekernick@yahoo.com or Celine Kirts at celinekirts@verizon.net. Thank you for your support of Saint Miriam and the environment! Last year this was a huge success! Let’s do it again!

Ukuleles, Leis, & Roasted Pig!

Our annual luau is Friday, July 27, 2012 from 7-9 pm. We will start planning with a kick-off meeting on May 27, 2012 after Mass. Robert Danner will organize the event and needs recipe, entertainment suggestions and volunteers. This is a fun summer event that you can bring your friends and family and your chance to get involved and experience another type of fellowship!

CYO Helps the SPCA!

The Saint Miriam CYO is collecting canned pet food and gently used blankets and towels for the Montgomery County SPCA. A donation box will be in the fellowship hall through April 29th. The SPCA takes in all unwanted animals from hamsters to horses and they are greatly in need of supplies especially during these chilly spring nights. Please bring your donation to the parish before or after any mass, or during office hours.

How do Thursday Liturgies work?

Our Thursday liturgies are a time to take a short break from the busyness of life. They occur every Thursday in the Main Sanctuary. They last approximately 30 minutes and then, if you desire, you may join us for dinner at a local eatery or stay and ask more questions! It is an informal time to relax, enjoy one another, and share in the life of the parish both inside outside of the church walls. Join us!

Saint Miriam Survey

As we wind up for the summer season, we will be taking a few short surveys to help us better plan for the fall activities and possible changes to the Liturgy. Please take a few minutes to respond. Thank You!
