On January 1st, 2021, on the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God we will honor the receiving of a tremendous gift from the Pauley Family, a brand-new custom free-standing Tabernacle! This Tabernacle, a work of the hands of Mr. Donald Pauley, is given to the Glory of God and in Loving Memory of Janet & Carl Pauley.

The Tabernacle is a liturgical furnishing used to house the Eucharist outside of Mass. The Most Holy Eucharist is reserved here for the adoration of the faithful and for later use. The Blessed Sacrament is always placed in the most prominent place in a church for the veneration of this great Sacrament. Our life is centered on Christ and, therefore, ours is prominently displayed in line with our Altar and is kept alight by a Sanctuary Lamp, filled with oil, to indicate and honor the presence of our Christ.

By way of history, the word tabernacle means “dwelling place.” Thus, the tent-like sanctuary that the Jews used before the Temple was built was called a tabernacle because God dwelt there. Similarly, for the feast of Sukkot, the Hebrews erected temporary shelters to live in for the festival, which is called by faithful Jews today as “the feast of tabernacles” or “the feast of booths” as a result. Consequently, the tabernacle within a Catholic Church is so named because it is a place where Christ dwells in the Eucarist.

Please join us virtually as we welcome and unveil this stunning gift from the Pauley Family, who will be with us to give this great gift to our community! A formal dedication will be scheduled outside the pandemic.
