A Chance to Save a Life by Ending Executions

Join us on June 28th & 29th!

The Rev. Dr. Father Jeff Hood (see bio at https://www.mysaintmiriam.org/our-team/) is coming to Saint Miriam on June 28th and 29th to introduce his work with The Execution Intervention Project, a nonprofit founded by Father Jeff and dedicated to providing tangible spiritual and organizational resources to intervene in human executions. Father Jeff serves as Chair for Faith, Justice, and Humanitarian Efforts at Saint Miriam.

On Saturday, June 28th at 5:00pm, we open our parish doors to host a 30 minute “Meet & Greet” with Father. We will then watch a stunning and informative 20-minute film presentation entitled, The Spiritual Advisor to be released as a world premier in September! This presentation will be followed by a Q&A session as you enjoy small finger foods, deserts, light refreshments and wine generously provided by the Women of Saint Miriam.

We encourage free will donations for his work with The Execution Intervention Project.

On Sunday, June 29th, Father Jeff will concelebrate at both the 7:30am Mass with Father Liam and the 9:30am Mass with Father Jerry and be our featured Homilist. Another ‘Meet & Greet” will occur after both Masses!

About Rev. Dr. Father Jeff Hood

The Rev. Dr. Father Jeff Hood is a nationally recognized Old Catholic priest and public theologian. Father Jeff has received numerous awards for his work against the death penalty, for the rights of LGBTQ persons, and for leadership during the Black Lives Matter Movement. A participant in history, he organized and led the July 7, 2016, Dallas, Texas rally against police brutality that tragically ended in the shooting deaths of five police officers and appeared extensively in the media afterward calling for a revival of both love and justice as well as standing with many serving on death rows across this nation. Father has stood inside death chambers with many inmates, offering them grace and love in their final moments on earth. Father has been featured in USA Today, Rolling Stone, Slate, AL.com, Newsweek and a myriad of other television and national news sources.

Our Pastor, Monsignor Jim, along with our Board has supported his work from the start and Monsignor Jim was engaged with Father Jeff at the nation’s first nitrogen gas execution of Kenneth Eugene Smith in Alabama, an execution at the order of Republican Governor Key Ivey and Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall. While both heavily protested and begged the execution be halted due to its heinous and tortuous methods, the state prevailed but Father stood by his side, despite the risks to his own life.

Rather than charge a fee for tickets, we are encouraging free-will donations to support Father’s work with those on death row.

This event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend. Please share this information.
