Dear Friends,
One of the dangers of faith is that, over time, we can begin to think we’ve figured God out. We become comfortable with our understanding of who God is, how God works, and even who belongs in God’s family.
This Sunday’s readings gently challenge that assumption.
Again and again throughout Scripture, God surprises people by reaching beyond the boundaries they expected. Those once considered outsiders discover they are not outside God’s love after all. God’s mercy is always reaching farther than we imagine.
Perhaps that’s one of the invitations of the Gospel: not simply to learn more about God, but to allow God to enlarge our hearts.
As we prepare for worship this weekend, take a moment to reflect.
Have you quietly written someone off?
Have you decided that someone is beyond hope?
Or perhaps you’ve begun to believe that about yourself.
Maybe this Sunday is an opportunity to let God stretch the boundaries of your heart once again. We may never fully comprehend the mystery of God, but we can always grow into the wideness of God’s love.
