Saint Miriam: It’s Always Been About Others…

In our Gospel from Luke, often called, ‘the parable of the rich fool’, for this coming Sunday, we read, “There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest. He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’’ You see, the rich farmer is a fool not because he is wealthy or because he saves for the future, but because he appears to live only for himself, and because he believes that he can secure his life with his abundant possessions.

And this is why Saint Miriam helps others. Even when we find our resources scarce, as we do this summer, we still look toward the future with hope, and with our hands out to others.

Today, I am pleased to announce our expansion of our Human First Outreach Initiative with a new Family Assistance Program to embrace the immigrant community living in fear. Amid a wave of arrests and apprehensions of undocumented immigrants and legal residents, Saint Miriam will join others in accepting requests for the delivering of hot meals, fresh sandwiches and produce, picking up groceries and prescription medicines and delivering them safely to the doors of immigrant families who live in fear. We know that many are afraid to leave their homes amid ongoing immigration enforcement activity. We’d like to help as many as we can with your support.

We believe that immigrants recently targeted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids are good, hard-working men and women who are make wonderful and important contributions to our society, economy, and make our nation better! So, beginning today, those in fear can request help, and we will respond in confidence to Help@mySaintMiriam.org

To those who wish to help our proven mission of helping others, all donations go directly to this new Family Assistance Program as part of our Human First Outreach where we serve others in need every week with an all-volunteer cadre of people who are and serve without receiving anything in return, apart from knowing we all did good work and helped others.

It is a vastly different administration. We are a vastly different country. And, while we still maintain our hope in a brighter tomorrow, today we are all scared. We are, too, but together we have strength and hope. This church walks with you and supports you.

I pray others will join us in support by contributing to our ability to serve others.

Why? Saint Miriam has always been about others…
